Page Speed, proper Content management system, internal linking and social media
The whole SEO world listens when Google’s SEO go-to guy Matt Cutts offers tips. If you are doing a part of search engine optimization in-house, this post would be of great use to you. While searching for the latest SEO trends, I stumbled on a video of Matt where he has answered a large organization’s question on SEO. The question was “If you were an SEO of a large company, what would you include in your 2011 strategy?” The tips provided by Matt were for last year but according to my research and current search engine algorithm trends, they still hold good.
Important points from the video
#1 Increase the page speed of your web pages. Matt clearly explains the importance of page speed. According to him, page speed is one of the most important SEO ranking factors which also play a direct role in retaining the visitors within the website and reducing the bounce rates.
#2 Maintain internal content management systems with updated information. Let everyone of your organization contribute in forms of blogs, discussions and articles. Spread the word about how SEO has helped your website gain keyword rankings and visitors. (Now that’s good news to us because Google encourages educating the public about SEO strategies). Pay attention to internal linking of the website and always check for broken links (Use Google webmaster tools)
#3 Social media is very much important. Matt says if your website has something interesting to talk about, it would be shared by many user in social media sites such as facebook and twitter (In Google plus as well now because it was not there when this video was published). He also mentions about shares in social bookmarking sites such as stumbleupon and digg
These are the 3 fundamental and mo0st valuable SEO strategies that any inhouse SEO campaign should contain. The same rule applies for companies and organizations making use of third party SEO service providers as well. If you don’t have time to manage the CMS, just hire professionals to get the content done. There are page speed services available today as well.
Though this information is from a video of 2011, all the current search algorithms are based on these factors even today. So start working on right away!
